Dodgers adds a proven veteran for 2015 Playoff Run: Utley goes back home.

Written and authored by Major League Baseball Expert Analyst Greg Nelson. produces it for Baseball news and notes. Former Long Beach Poly High School and UCLA baseball standout Chase Utley is returning to Southern California. To play for his hometown Los Angeles Dodgers. The longtime Philadelphia Phillies second baseman played in the “CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE” since the 2003 season. In an ironic twist, Utley was taken by the Dodgers in the second round of the 1997 MLB draft. Utley has made six All-Star teams, four consecutive from 2006-2010. His latest All-Star appearance was in 2014. The Philadelphia Phillies won the 2008 World Series but are now rebuilding.

*Chase Utley was named to the All-Decade team after the 2009 season by Sports Illustrated. The 36-year old has a .282 career batting average with two hundred and thirty-three home runs. Chase Utley is a better athlete than you think, he has one hundred and forty-two stolen bases over his twelve seasons. The decline of the Philadelphia Phillies began in the 2012 season, and it has been disaster ever since. The franchise may have parted way with Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence too soon. The pair have become productive players in Boston and San Francisco respectfully. The good thig for Chase is having a chance to get recharged in a new environment and play for a contender as he comes off of the injury list. Utley will hold down the second base position until Howie Kendricks returns from an injury. He will then be designated to a pinch hitter and utility player. Family and friends will flock to “CHAVEZ RAVINE” the next couple of months. This is a perfect situation for a player who’s career is coming to an end. Utley say’s he is going to take it one day at a time and has not made any plans for the 2016 MLB season.

As for his current team the Los Angeles Dodgers, they are finishing up an interleague series at Oakland on August 19th. The team will travel to Houston for three-game set vs. The American League West Division leaders. It is on to Cincinnati for another three-game series before returning home to close out the month of August. The Dodgers are currently in first-place in the Division, two games in front of San Francisco. It is going to be an exciting time for Chase Utley. How many baseball players get a chance to wind down their careers in a familiar atmosphere with family and friends? When professional athletes integrity have and class, organizations recognizes what he has meant to the city. The Dodgers organization just got better, Utley will be a role model on and off the field and will show younger players how to conduct themselves in a winning environment. The Dodgers got eliminated in the 2014 postseason three game to one by the St.Louis Cardinals. The Dodgers probably have more raw talent than the “RED BIRDS” but just didn’t know how to prepare for playoff baseball. With Utley they will be better if they make it to the 2015 MLB postseason.
