The 2015 Detroit Lions won their 2015 NFL Exhibition opener by beating the lowly New York Jets 23-3. The concern for the Lions is keeping All Pro Wide Receiver Calvin Johnson healthy the entire season. “MEGATRON” was held out of the opener. Head Coach Jim Caldwell want’s his star wideout ready for the regular season opener. The Washington Redskins won on the road vs. Cleveland 20-17 in their first preseason contest. The Redskins starters we shut down, scoring only three points near the end of the first quarter. Washington head coach Jay Gruden is looking for a few tight ends to take the place of Niles, Paul, and Logan Paulsen. The headaches are already starting for the second year coach. Gruden has three quarterbacks, and no one has separated from the pack. Robert Griffin 111 must show this preseason or his short tenure in the “NATIONS CAPITAL” could be over.

Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford looked in midseason form, playing only one series against the Jets. The former Georgia Bulldogs signal-callers threw a touchdown on the opening drive. Rookie running back Ameer Abdullah rushed for sixty-seven yards on just seven carries and looked like the featured back for Detroit in 2015. The Lions have a battle going on at the tight end position with second-year star Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew. The tall and lanky Joe Furia is also in the mix at the position. The Lions offensive line also looked like they are ready to start the season. On the other side of the football is where the team will be tested. The Lions lost both Nick Fairley and Ndamukong Suh; both were anchors of the defensive line. The team just signed linebacker DeAndre Levy to a huge contract extension, making the former Wisconsin star one of the highest paid at his position. Defensive end and former first round draft pick Ezekiel Ansah must also prove to General Manger Martin Mayhew that he was worth the selection. Veterans Haloti Ngata, Darryl Tapp, and Jerel Worthy all have looked good in training camp. The Lions secondary has been vulnerable the past few years but held their own against the Jets. Thirty Four-year-old veteran Rashean Mathis is still performing at a high level and is a team leader, but for how long.

The 2015 Washington Redskins went offense, drafting four of their first five on that side of the football in the annual event. Offensive tackle Brandon Scherff looks like he will fit opposite of Trent Williams. Running Back Alfred Morris carried the football eight time. With a total of forty-two yards at Cleveland. Before giving way to Matt Jones and Chris Thompson. Wideout Pierre Garçon was targeted three times with zero catches. Andre Roberts has four catches for seventy-two yards, and DeSean Jackson was not in uniform. Former Denver Broncos nose tackle Terrance “POT ROAST” Knighton looks like he is ready to take over on the d-line. The coaching staff is pleased with the play of the linebackers Perry Riley on the inside, and Ryan Kerrigan outside can provide a pass rush. Coach Gruden also likes what he has seen in the second year defensive end/linebacker, Trent Murphy. Cornerback David Amerson must play with more confidence at the position.
