From all indications, you would have to believe longtime Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne would resign with “INDY”. Colts head coach Chuck Pagano brought in his former University of Miami teammates Frank Gore and Andre Johnson. Wayne was also instrumental in rallying the team after Pagano was diagnosed with Leukemia. Both player and coached have a long-standing relationship dating back to their day at the South Florida powerhouse. On August 24th, Wayne signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots. rumors of former NFL and current Fox Television NFL analyst is also interested in making a comeback with New England.

The 36-year-old Wayne has caught passes from Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck and now he can add Tom Brady to the list. The 36-year old New Orleans, Louisiana native spent fourteen seasons in Indianapolis. He was the 30th overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft and has over (14,000) receiving yards with eighty-two touchdowns. His best season was in 2007 tallying 1,510 yards, he also played a big part in the 206 Superbowl victory over the Chicago Bears. The Indianapolis Colts recently signed wideout T.Y. Hilton to a long-term deal, but left the door open for Wayne to return. This Sports Handicapper beleived he would resign, because of Johnson and Gore. However these are still professional athletes with “EGO’S” and that is just the way it is. Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay appreciates everything Reggie brought to the franchise. Wayne is also instrumental in the development of some of the Colts young receivers including current players Hilton and Donte Moncrief. The Colts also drafted former University Of Miami star Phillip Dorsett in the first round this year, Dorsett will play behind Andre Johnson. It will be interesting to see if Johnson can be the kind of professional Wayne is. He once left the field as a member of the Houston Texans during a game when the team was losing.

The Green Bay Packers also expressed interest in Reggie Wayne after Jordy Nelson tore his ACL, which will sideline him for the season. Reggie ultimately felt New England would be a better fit. New England won the 2014-15 Superbowl without a proven receiver, and all indication was they we satisfied with their group. New England has Brandon LaFell, Julian Edelman, Aaron Dobson, Danny Amendola and Josh Boyce in the mix for playing time. Someone will be the odd man out with the addition of Wayne. Edelman seems to be safe due to his skills as a punt returner. New England is a class organization, and Reggie Wayne is a great fit. Patriots starting quarterback will feel comfortable with the way Reggie prepares and goes about the business of playing professional football. This is life in the NFL where one would have thought a star like Wayne would end his career in the place he started. If Peyton Manning can drift to another franchise anything is possible.
