The (0-0) Virginia Cavaliers of the ACC Coastal Division will make the trip to the “GOLDEN STATE” for their 2015 season opener. Virginia will play the (0-0) UCLA Bruins of the PAC-Twelve Division in College Football action. The game takes place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Califronia. The Virginia Football program opens its 126th season Saturday in “TENSILE TOWN”. Virginia head coach Mike London could be on the hot seat this season. The Cavaliers have not made the postseason since 2011. The UCLA Bruins will try to make the leap into the elite status this season. UCLA is supposed to contend with USC and Arizona State for the Conference title. The opening betting line has UCLA as a nineteen and a half point Home Favorite Against The Spread. The betting odds total is 52′-points for Saturday’s game.
The 2015 Virginia Cavaliers are going to have Junior Matt Johns under center for their opener. Virginia lost 28-20 in Charlottesville last season. Offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild wants to get the football to T.J. Thorpe in the passing game. In addition, the Cavaliers hope to establish a strong running game behind an experienced offensive line. Thorpe is a University if North Carolina transfer who can take it the distance. Defensive coordinator John Tenuta will bring an aggressive approach to the Cavaliers defense in 2015. Six starters return on defense from the 2014 squad. Sophomore safety Quin Blanding will have to be in a position to make plays. The Cavaliers should be able to hold their own on both sides of the line of scrimmage. A victory Saturday could go a long way in restoring confidence in London’s ability to lead the program going forward. The Virginia Cavaliers have home dates with Notre Dame and Boise State in two of the next three weeks.
The UCLA Bruins will look to highly publicized freshman Josh Rosen to take over the reigns at quarterback. The Brett Hundley era is over, but he coaching staff has high praises for Rosen. The signal-caller will have plenty of weapons at his disposal. Junior running back Paul Perkins (1,575) rushing yards last season wants to get off to a good start. Perkins led the conference in rushing in 2014 and would like nothing more than to duplicate the feat. Head Coach Jim Mora expects his football team to take it to another level this season, he believes this is his most talented team. There is a lingering question about the freshman quarterback which will be answered Saturday. The UCLA defense has plenty of athletes who are game changers. The most notable is linebacker Myles Jack, who had a phenomenal freshman season but took a step back in 2014. The native of Washington State has been productive on defense and offense. There is no question about the talent on the roster, but consistency is going to be the key. The Bruins can’t rest on their laurels, they want to dominate Saturday in front of the home crowd.The Bruins entertain BYU on September 19th.
