Written and authored by NCAA Football Expert Analyst Al Presto. Charliessports.com produces it for Football news and notes. Fans of the Ole Miss Rebels thought their football team was primed for a run at a BCS Playoff run. Head Coach Hugh Freeze believed his team was ready to invade Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. After all the Rebels went inti Tuscaloosa and upset the “MIGHTY” Alabama Crimson Tide. Final score Florida 38 Ole Miss 10 not what the Rebels faithful expected. The loss probably drops Ole Miss out of the top ten, but the Rebels are still in the SEC-West hunt. The Alabama Crimson Tide were underdogs for the first time in a while. Alabama went “BETWEEN THE HEDGES” at Athens, Georgia and shut down the Georgia Bulldogs 38-10. The Tide is still behind Ole Miss in the West Division and Florida becomes the favorites in the SEC-East. In other SEC news Tennessee lost at home to an SEC-West team. The Arkansas Razorbacks used a potent running attack led by Alex Collins and an awesome defensive effort to come away with a road win. What will be in store for week 6 in the College Football landscape?

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish fell short on a failed two-point conversion at Clemson. Norte Dame scored nineteen fourth quarter points in the comeback. Freshman quarterback DeShone Kizer was stopped short of the end zone on a failed two-point conversion after Notre Dame scored in the final ten seconds of the contest. Both head coaches came away impressed with their team’s gutsy performances down the stretch. Dabo Sweeney came out on top and believes his defense is what National Champions are made of as the Tigers get into the thick of the ACC schedule. The Notre Dame offense came to life and the Clemson defense rose to the occasion. The finish was “DEJA VU” from a 2014 Notre Dame loss at Florida State when the exact circumstance occurred, the Irish scored and missed a two-point conversion. The top-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes were pushed again, this week by the Indiana Hoosiers and it was the Ohio State defense which rose to the occasion. Indiana had a chance to score, down seven points the Hoosiers had the football deep in Ohio State territory but failed to score. Ohio State will retain their number-one ranking. Number two ranked Michigan State beat Purdue by three points at home.

The power conference teams got tested all day on Saturday, October 3rd. After breaking the top ten, the UCLA Bruins were brought back down to earth at he hands of Arizona State. The Sun Devils have the talent to take over supremacy in the competitive PAC-Twelve South Division. The Wildcats destination could come down to an October 17th road trip to 4-0 Utah, who is fifth in the nation. The Big Twelve Conference was left out of the 2014-15 BCS Playoffs. TCU, Baylor, and Oklahoma are among the top ten teams in the nation. All three teams can score points, but the College Football landscape seems to be changing to “DEFENSE”. Does the Big-Twelve have enough of the defensive side to compete with the Big-Ten, SEC, ACC or the Pac-Twelve? Stay tuned as an exciting October, November, and early December will determine the fate of College Football programs going into the Bowl Season.
