Chalmers along with forward James Ennis was traded to the Western Conference Southwest Division team on Tuesday, November 10th. Miami will acquire Point Guard Beno Udrih and Jarnell Stokes and a second-round pick along with a second round draft pick. Chalmers, who led the Kansas Jayhawks to the 2008 NCAA Championship with a 3-point basketball in the final three seconds of the win over the favored Memphis Tigers. Chalmers was also named most outstanding player in the Final Four that same season. The Memphis Grizzlies now have an experienced point guard to back up Mike Conley. The organization believes Chalmers playoff experience will pay dividends in the postseason. The Anchorage, Alaska native was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft after forgoing his senior season at the University of Kansas. Chalmers started all 82 games in his rookie season with Miami.

Most recently Chalmers was seen with teammate Gerald Green in the lobby of a luxury downtown Miami hotel when Green was acting out of character. Tenants in the building claim Green was hollering and hallucinating, paramedics and police and paramedics were called to the scene. Chalmers rode with Green to the hospital. Opinions are running wild in South Florida over the situation, and the Miami Heat organization is keeping it quiet. The behavior exhibited by Green was symptoms of the street drug “FLAKKA” which has hit the streets of Miami and neighboring Fort Lauderdale. The fact that the Heat organization is keeping the incident internal and Chalmers suspected history of Marijuana use raises suspicion about the incident. Chalmers was dismissed from the 2008 NBA rookie transition program for smoking Marijuana in his hotel room with Kansas teammate Darrell Arthur and two women.
