The Troy, Trojans Football program, got back to being one of the premier teams in the Sun Belt Conference last season with a 10-3 record. Head Coach Neal Brown enters his third season in the 3rd best football program in the “HEART OF DIXIE.” Only Southeastern Conference institutes Alabama and Auburn are better than Troy.

The Trojans got rewarded with a 2016 GoDaddy Bowl invitation, and they beat Ohio University 28-23. Troy gave Clemson all they could handle early in the 2016 season before losing in the final quarter.

The 2017 Troy University Football team is loaded and should compete with Appalachian State for the Conference Title.

Troy will travel to Boise State to open the season and also has a road trip to the “BAYOU” to take on the LSU Tigers.

Troy gets a break as Appalachian State is not on the schedule in 2017.

Fans of the Troy Trojans hopes the combination of a high-powered offense but young will have Troy in a good position for a SunBelt Title.

The Troy Trojans offense lost just three players from a unit which averaged over 429.0 yards, fifty third in the FBS.

The spark plug that makes the Trojans offense go is signal-caller Brandon Silvers. The Twenty Three-year-old Pensacola, Florida native threw for 3,180 yards in 2016.

However, the twelve interceptions must be cut in half if the team is to have success again in 2017.

Offensive Coordinators Kenny Edenfield and Matt Moore lose just three players from the unit.

Wideout Emanuel Thompson led a talented group with 820 yards and his side kick Deondre Douglas is just as effective.

Running Back Jordan Chunn leads the ground game; he rushed for 1,288 yards and 16 touchdowns.

The loss of three prominent offensive linemen could loom large, but the coaching staff insists it’s not a problem.

The key to offensive production for the Troy Trojans is for the passing attack to carry the team, but pass protection could be an issue.

The 2017 Troy Trojans defense loses six of their top tacklers from last season.

Defensive Coordinator Vic Koenning is one of the best in the business and has plenty of experience.

The Troy defense did an adequate job overall, allowing 366.5 yards to the opposition, 34th in the nation.

The front four headlined the unit giving up just 120.0 yards rushing per contest.

Koenning understands he must replace productive linebacker William Lloyd among others at the position.

The secondary should be solid with the return of safeties Kris Weatherspoon and Cedarius Rookard.

The Troy defense will be the Achilles heel of the team unless Koenning can find lightning in a bottle. The defense will give up points due to the inexperience factor, but the offense will outscore most Conference opponents.

Also the season opening  trip to Boise State should be a good measuring stick of where the team needs to improve for the 2017 NCAA Football season.
